Appendix A: Initial Interview
Summary of Interview with Mars Hill Charity Riders (MHCR)
The Mars Hill Charity Riders (MHCR) interview provided insightful details for Appendix A of our recommendation report. Our team's focus was to understand MHCR's networking strategies, operational challenges, and community impact. We clarified that our role was to offer guidance and recommendations based on the information gathered without direct involvement in the implementation of these solutions.
MHCR's approach to networking and connecting with other organizations has seen varied success. They identified effective methods and areas where improvement is needed. The charity expressed interest in expanding its network but faced uncertainties in approaching new organizations. A significant challenge highlighted was the difficulty in securing timely outside support, impacting their ability to plan and execute events efficiently.
Collaboration has been a vital aspect of MHCR's operations, working with groups for special events and rides, including engagements with rehabilitation facilities and halfway houses. Publicity efforts are focused on local advertising channels such as radio, Facebook, newspapers, and word-of-mouth in Decatur township. These methods have proven effective in promoting their events and initiatives.
Budget constraints emerged as a critical concern. The interview revealed MHCR's aspirations to meet and exceed its goal budget for the upcoming fiscal year. They are considering supplementing their income through government or nonprofit grants, indicating a proactive approach to financial management.
Community involvement is central to MHCR's mission. The charity actively supports local communities, particularly in Decatur township. Notable events include a toy run that collects thousands of toys with corporate contributions and a Christmas assistance program that helps 3-5 families with gifts funded by club rides and donations. This direct support to families underscores MHCR's commitment to their community.
The process for individuals seeking assistance involves a thorough application review by the club's officers and, in some cases, the entire club membership. Funds raised from various rides are judiciously used to pay specific bills for those requesting help, demonstrating MHCR's responsible and targeted approach to financial aid.
